2012 NFL Pro Bowl Rosters

2012 NFL Pro Bowl Rosters

Here are this year’s Pro Bowl rosters, with a bit of commentary from yours truly:

AMERICAN FOOTBALL CONFERENCE

OFFENSE

 * – Denotes Starters

QUARTERBACKS* Thomas Brady, New England

Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh

Philip Rivers, San Diego

Comment: There aren’t even any other AFC QBs worth mentioning here except Andy Dalton.

RUNNING BACKS

 * Ray Rice, Baltimore

Maurice Jones-Drew, Jacksonville

Arian Foster, Houston

Comment: Cannot argue with any of these.

FULLBACK

 * Vonta Leach, Baltimore

Comment: Who else IS there? Marcel Reece?

WIDE RECEIVERS

 * Wes Welker, New England

* Mike Wallace, Pittsburgh

AJ Green, Cincinnati

Brandon Marshall, Miami

Comment: Dwayne Bowe, maybe, but otherwise, there’s slim pickins in the AFC.

TIGHT ENDS

 * Rob Gronkowski, New England

Antonio Gates, San Diego

Comment: Gronkowski is an annoying pest, but he is awfully good at what he does at such a young age.

TACKLES

 * Joe Thomas, Cleveland

* Jake Long, Miami

D’Brickashaw Ferguson, NY Jets

Comment: Not sure about Ferguson, because he’s been shaky at several points this year (including getting completely owned by JPP in Week 16), but there really aren’t more than one or two other guys who should even merit mention at tackle.

GUARDS

 * Logan Mankins, New England

* Brian Waters, New England

Marshal Yanda, Baltimore

Comment: The key: hold excessively, know that you will always get away with it, and land in the Pro Bowl.

CENTERS

Maurkice Pouncey, Pittsburgh

Nick Mangold, NY Jets

Comment: The only rationale has to be the fact that Mangold missed parts of two games earlier this year. He’s better than Pouncey. The Jets were a veritable sieve when Mangold was out. Not much changed when Pouncey went out with an ankle.

DEFENSE

DEFENSIVE ENDS

* Dwight Freeney, Indianapolis

* Andre Carter, New England

Elvis Dumervil, Denver

Comment: Freeney, never a run stuffer, hasn’t even gotten to the QB much this year. Situations like this are where people don’t take the Pro Bowl seriously.

DEFENSIVE TACKLES/NOSE TACKLES

* Haloti Ngata, Baltimore

* Vince Wilfork, New England

Richard Seymour, Oakland

Comment: SEYMOUR >>> WILFORK.

OUTSIDE LINEBACKERS

* Terrell Suggs, Baltimore

* Von Miller, Denver

Tamba Hali, Kansas City

Comment: Mario Williams would have been here had he been healthy SMH.

INSIDE/MIDDLE LINEBACKERS

* Ray Lewis, Baltimore

Derrick Johnson, Kansas City

Comment: Ray Lewis being here is a joke.

CORNERBACKS

* Darrelle Revis, NY Jets

* Champ Bailey, Denver

Johnathan Joseph, Houston

Comment: Wish Leon Hall had stayed healthy.

FREE SAFETY

* Ed Reed, Baltimore

Eric Weddle, San Diego

Comment: Weddle has been better than Reed this year.

STRONG SAFETY

* Troy Polamalu, Pittsburgh

Comment: Sick and tired of this overrated hack.

SPECIAL TEAMS

PUNTER

* Shane Lechler, Oakland

Comment: Best in the league and has been for a decade.

PLACE-KICKER

* Sebastian Janikowski, Oakland

Comment: Seabass. YAWN.

KICK RETURNER

*Antonio Brown, Pittsburgh

Comment: LaDarius Webb.

SPECIAL TEAMER

* Matthew Slater, New England

Comment: Joshua Cribbs???

NATIONAL FOOTBALL CONFERENCE

OFFENSE

QUARTERBACKS*  Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay

Drew Brees, New Orleans

Eli Manning, NY Giants

Comment: 1-2-3 in passing yardage in the NFC. 1-2-3 in clutchness (in reverse order) in the NFL and 1-2-3 (in whatever order you desire) among who I would want to lead a drive late in the 4th.

RUNNING BACKS

* LeSean McCoy, Philadelphia

Matt Forte, Chicago

Frank Gore, San Francisco

Comment: Forte, who can’t even punch it in during goal line situations, gets the nod over Steven Jackson and Marshawn Lynch. Nice.

FULLBACK

* John Kuhn, Green Bay

Comment: Kuhn hasn’t been used as much as he was last year, but what have you. Not many NFC teams use their FBs.

WIDE RECEIVERS

* Calvin Johnson, Detroit

* Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona

Steve Smith, Carolina

Greg Jennings, Green Bay

Comment: VICTOR CRUZ.

And Greg Jennings isn’t even the best WR on his own team.

TIGHT END

* Jimmy Graham, New Orleans

Tony Gonzalez, Atlanta

Comment: Jermichael Finley would be here if he didn’t drop the ball 2-3 times per game.

TACKLES

* Jason Peters, Philadelphia

* Joe Staley, San Francisco

Jermon Bushrod, New Orleans

Comment: What, no Jeff Backus?

GUARDS

* Jahri Evans, New Orleans

* Carl Nicks, New Orleans

Davin Joseph, Tampa Bay

Comment: Chris Snee is better than all three. Go figure.

CENTERS

* Ryan Kalil, Carolina

Scott Wells, Green Bay

————————————————-

DEFENSE

DEFENSIVE TACKLES

* Jared Allen, Minnesota

* Jason Babin, Philadelphia

Jason Pierre-Paul, NY Giants

Comment: JPP is better than Jared Allen, even though Allen has played longer. JPP does things that Allen just cannot do, despite his immense talent. Jason Babin is a one-trick pony. DEs who do not play the run (which Allen and JPP do exceptionally well) should never make Pro Bowls.

DEFENSIVE TACKLES/NOSE TACKLES

* Justin Smith, San Francisco

* Jay Ratliff, Dallas

BJ Raji, Green Bay

Comment: I thought Smith was  a DE? Ratliff has been up and down all year. Raji started very slowly this year. Chris Canty should have been an alternate.

OUTSIDE LINEBACKERS

* DeMarcus Ware, Dallas

* Clay Matthews, Green Bay

Lance Briggs, Chicago

Comment: (Marv Albert Voice) Clay Matthews has…. has… COME ONNNNNNNNNN of late.

INSIDE LINEBACKERS

* Patrick Willis, San Francisco

Brian Urlacher, Chicago

Comment: Where are Aldon Smith and Novorro Bowman ha?

CORNERBACKS

* Charles Woodson, Green Bay

* Carlos Rogers, San Francisco

Charles Tillman, Chicago

Comment: ALL WORLD CHUCK WOODSON. Insert Corey Webster for Tillman.

FREE SAFETY

* Earl Thomas, Seattle

Dashon Goldson, San Francisco

Comment: Can’t argue here. Thomas is a playmaker. Goldson, with a new/better scheme is making impact plays weekly.

STRONG SAFETY

* Adrian Wilson, Arizona

Comment: HE HAS DONE NOTHING THIS YEAR. Insert Kenny Phillips.

SPECIAL TEAMS

PUNTER

* Andy Lee, San Francisco

Comment: YAWN.

PLACE KICKER

* David Akers, San Francisco

Comment: I still hate this guy, but he could make 45 FGs. That is unreal (although more indicative of how poor of a QB Alex Smith is).

KICK RETURNER

* Patrick Peterson, Arizona

Comment: The kid is going to be good, but did Devin Hester defect from the NFL and I missed it?

SPECIAL TEAMER

* Corey Graham, Chicago

Comment: RIGHT (sarcasm).
